A non-profit organization is an entity that operates for purposes other than generating profit for its owners or shareholders; services are provided at an “economic cost,” enough to pay the cost of providing the service. Instead, non-profits are organized to pursue social, educational, charitable, or other similar missions that benefit the broader community or specific groups of people. Non-profits are governed by a volunteer board of directors who are responsible for overseeing the organization governance and ensuring it operates in accordance with its mission and legal requirements.

We are a non-profit housing organization focused on the governance role; we operate with a volunteer Board of Directors. 

For individuals or families, certain housing forms are more appropriate than others, ideally people live in homes that are appropriate for their life. Affordable means that the shelter cost for a home does fits with the economic means of the individual or family. 

 We work with seven (7) collaborative properties along with twenty (20) clients in NB and PEI. 

 Approximately, 500 homes. 

Subsidized rent refers to a government program or policy of a housing organization which provides financial assistance based on an applicant's gross monthly income. This assistance can come in different forms:

1. Rent Supplements: This involves the government or, a housing organization paying a portion of the Member or Tenant's rent directly to the housing organization, reducing the amount the Member or Tenant must pay.
2. Social Housing: This refers to housing developments or homes specifically designated for low-income individuals or families. Rents in these units are often set at below-market rates to make them affordable.
3. Housing Allowances or Rent Subsidies: Some programs provide direct financial assistance to Members or Tenants, allowing them to afford market rent in private housing.

The specific criteria for eligibility and the amount of subsidy vary depending on the program and the Province. Generally, subsidized housing aims to ensure that lower-income individuals and families have access to safe and affordable housing options.
